Professor Alladi Prabhakar had his early education in Madras and obtained his BE degree in Electrical Engineering with Honours from the College of Engineering Guindy, Madras University in 1948. After serving as a Research Scholar in the High Voltage Department of the Indian Institute of Science., Bangalore, he joined the Defence Science Service as Junior Scientific Officer at Delhi. He was later assigned to the teaching faculty of the Institute of Armament Technology, Kirkee, Poona, where he served for eleven years as Lecturer and Assistant Professor. He obtained his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the world renowned Harward University in 1956. He was deputed by the Ministry of Defence Government of India to do the Post Graduate Diploma in Guided Missile Engineering at the College of Aeronautics Cranfield, U.K. in 1960. He joined as Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Osmania University in 1964 and served in various capacities for over 23 years as Chairman, Dept. of ECE., as Principal, University of Engineering, Dean, Faculty of Engineering. He is a Fellow of IETE, IE (Australia and India), and AP Academic of Sciences and Member of Computer Society of India and Association of Biomedical Scientists (India). He was awarded the “Best Teacher Award” by the Govt. of AP in 1979 and the UGC appointed him as National Lecturer for the year 1984-85.He held several appointments abroad. Visiting Senior Lecturer, Caulfield Institution of Technology, Melbourne, Australia for 3 years, visiting Professor, University of New Hampshire, USA for 3 years, visiting Research Scientist, Yale University, USA in 1978. He is the author of over 40 Research Papers in Journals in India and abroad. He had been Principal, Manipal Institute of Technology for 9 years (1987-1996) where he had spear headed the introduction of Post Graduate Courses in Engineering. After a successful tenure as Principal, MIT, Professor Alladi Prabhakar assumed charge as Director, International Programmes, under MEMG, Manipal in February, 1996. He retired from active service in August 1998 and has since then settled down at Hyderabad. He is now taking active interest in AP Academic of Sciences, the Rotary Club of Hyderabad, the IETE, Hyderabad Centre and Dept. of ECE., Osmania University, Hyderabad. |
