Prof. BABU RAO
Prof. Babu Rao is multi-faceted personality. He is an erudite speaker, innovator, scientist, educationist, scholar, artist and above all an able leader. He has done memorable service for the growth of IETE Hyderabad Centre through his vision, persistent hard work and dynamic leadership. Prof. Babu Rao's leadership qualities were evident right from his schooldays. He was a Rover Scout and Secretary for the District Student Union, Nalgonda. He did his degree in Telecommunications Engineering in Osmania University under the able guidance of Prof. K.K. Nair. Later in 1966, Prof. Babu Rao joined Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL) in Hyderabad. He also acquired MS Degree from JNTU.

Prof. Babu Rao had always been a 'Trend Setter'. In DLRL, he has realized technologies like Spread Spectrum Communications Military using technical Code Division Multiple Access, Pulse Analysers, Multi-Radar Tracking using stereo-graphic projection for the first time. Implementation of digital communication techniques, development of embedded processor based systems, concepts of multiprocessor systems for development of ruggedised computer with real-time software for air defence systems were main contributions of Prof. Babu Rao. He was also actively involved in the TQM (Total Quality Management) activities of the DLRL. He was instrumental in establishing Software Development Centre (SDC) with a centralized facility promoting the software development for the major ongoing projects of DLRL. The IETE Hyderabad Centre, has been his other love. It would be appropriate to call it a 'passion' rather than love!! He is a Fellow of IETE and started his association in the Centre's activities as a EC Member. As the Secretary of this Centre, he has successfully conducted the Institution's ATC-93. His Chairmanship during the Silver Jubilee year, was marked by 25 technical lectures and inauguration of Silver Jubilee Block by then Honourable Chief Minister. He is serving Council Member and contributed in various capacities, Chairman for many Committees and Vice-President and Zonal Coordinator. Prof. Babu Rao was instrumental in adding several glittering feathers to the cap of the IETE Hydoerabad Centre. To name a few: Inauguration of IETECASET, inception of ALCCS course which is equivalent to M.Tech in Computer Science, starting of 'A' & 'B' level courses of DOEACC, NORAD scheme for needy urban poor women and launching of IETE News Letter. Prof. Babu Rao has earned for the IETE Hyderabad Centre, the unique prestige of receiving the Best Centre Award twice and subsequently the Perpetual Best Centre Award. Prof. Babu Rao's sphere of proficiency is not just limited to Electronics, Communications and Computers. He studied Upanishads, Puranas, Ithihasas, Quaran, Bible and Works of Tagore, Tolstoy, Gandhy and Sharat in his childhood and won many awards in Elecution and Essay Writing. He has very good knowledge of Homeopathy, Reiki healing, Sahaja Yoga, Abstract Mathematics, Astronomy and Astrology. He is also an academician and guided many M.Tech. students. He is a poet with a command in Telugu Poetry. He is a consummate stage artist and acted in many stage dramas, the latest being the role of 'Vasishta' which he naturally fits in. He is a linguist with sound knowledge in Telugu, Hindi, Urdu and English. Also he studied foreign languages like Japanese and Russian. One can see Prof. Babu Rao as an 'Institution' rather than 'individual' alone. Though no award can truly assess the magnitude of his contributions, DRDO has honoured him with IGMDP award and Systems Engineer 2000 award for his significant contribution in the related fields.
