The IETE Hyderabad Centre can not forget his zeal and untiring efforts in getting the constructions of building complex including Mekaster Auditorium of Hyderabad Centre.  Acknowledging his selfless service, contribution and vision, IETE in general and Hyderabad Local Centre in particular this Centre instituted an “Annual Endowment Lecture” in his honour.

BIO – DATA OF Prof. S. NARAYANA


Prof. S. Narayana was born on 05-06-1948. Prof. S. Narayana, Professor of the Department of EIE in CVR College of Engineering, Hyderabad is a graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Osmania University and M.Tech. from JNTU.  He started his career in DRDO, where he worked in the field of Guided Missile Radar and subsequently moved to the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), CSIR in 1976.  He retired as Scientist ‘G’ (Director Grade Scientist) in June, 2008.


Prof. S. Narayana engaged himself in the design and development of a variety of geophysical instruments using state of the art technology for the investigation of ground water, minerals and engineering studies, which are simple but of tremendous use to common people. The technical know-how of these instruments has been transferred to the industry for commercial production. He is the recipient of a number of honours and awards which include Best Invention Award, Engineer of the year award-2000, Best Scientist / Engineer in the State for the benefit of Industry, Trade and Agriculture-2002 and IETE Hari Ramji Toshniwal Gold Medal 2004.


Prof. S. Narayana served the IETE Hyderabad Centre and IETE Governing Council in various capacities.  His dedication, sincere efforts and active participation in the growth of the IETE, inevitably led to his election as President for the year 2006-07 and unanimous re-election for the year 2007-08.


In recognition of his dedicated services to the IETE and valuable contributions in the field of electronics through research, he has been conferred the Distinguished Fellowship of the IETE in 2013. He has now moved to the rarefied and exclusive group of eminent electronic engineers of the country.


Under the leadership of Prof. S. Narayana the IETE has progressed in all directions through his vision, zeal and leadership.  IETE Foundation Day and the IETE Convocation were held for the first time with his initiative. He conceptualized a meeting of all the office bearers of the various IETE Centres.  He introduced automation in the examination procedure for declaring results faster.  To improve the quality of the IETE Journal, steps were taken to have online submission and review system. During his tenure, there was a quantum jump in the number of IETE centres and membership.  His enormous efforts resulted in improvement in the infrastructure of the Six Centres acquiring their own office buildings.  He is responsible for establishing Placement Cell and Alumni Association. The IETE Hyderabad Centre cannot forget his zeal and untiring efforts in getting the construction of the building complex including Mekaster Auditorium.

Acknowledging his selfless services to the IETE in general and Hyderabad Centre in particular, the Centre has instituted an “Annual Endowment Lecture” in his honour. Several companies, institutions, IETE Centres, staff and individuals have contributed voluntarily to the corpus fund created for this purpose.
