IETE Head Quarters and all the centers and sub centers of IETE will be networked togeather and an Intranet will be developed. Following are the salient features.

1. WEB PRESENCE.

Exclusive web space to be hired on a server through some web space provider like ieth/dishnet or Earthlink.com.etc. with IETE's own registered URL.

(a) Home Page hosting and continuous updating through a control panel ; All information about IETE as an institution and all its activities, centres and sub centres, examination and courses, programmes and events, seminars and tutorials and everything that can go to public domain will have to be uploaded on the <http> site of IETE.

(b) IETE <ftp> site can be made <secure site> where IETE can upload all exclusive information using <file transfer protocol> and provide access to the ftp site only to IETE centres / subcentre / constituents through protected password.

(c) Mailboxes can be created on IETE site for all constituents with exclusive e-mail adresses and e-mail groups can be formed. ( e-mail groups are exclusive groups of members who can send e-mail to all other members of the group in a conference mode. Outsiders cannot access or send the mail to this group. Membership is by invitation only. Yahoo mail group is one such existing example.). e-mail services, instant messaging service and audio / text conferences can be organized for all the members of the group.

(d) Drop boxes can be created as companions of each of the e-mail boxes. Files / data can be transferred / uploaded to any / all selected drop boxes of the members of the group. In other words drop box is like a post box at your home, access to which is available to you and you only through a key. (password.).

2. INTERNET ACCESS :

All the centres / subcentres / constituents can access IETE home page through dial up lines and designated ISP. We can also consider dedicated ISDN lines as volume of traffic increases when Internet Integrated education system starts functioning in full swing.

3. INTERNET INTEGRATED EDUCATION SYSTEM.

a) Virtual bank of experts :

 Experts from all over the places participate in the content creation of curricula, course content, lecture notes and question banks, etc., in multi media format from their normal places of residence through Internet access. IETE server will be repository of all these material and will make it available to all IETE constituents on a secured password basis. The experts will also participate in delivering knowledge to students and clarifying doubts etc. through CD ROMs, e-mail, chat sessions, audio / video conferences etc.

b) Virtual classroom :     

IETE can conduct classes through virtual classroom. A local teacher works as a facilitator and delivers the course content either using video tapes / CD ROMs etc. or by downloading and displaying multi media material from IETE server. Discussions with the experts and clarificaion of doubt etc. can be materialized through e-mail, audio / video conferences, and instant messaging system or by referring to question bank on the IETE server.

4. IETE INTRANET INFRASTRUCTURE.

          IETE's own INTRANET infrastructure should be the final destination ideally suited for the networking and communication activity. Each of the centre / subcentre will be equipped with a VSAT terminal. ( The current trend is to have corporate level exclusive INTRANET e.g. ISRO INTRANET, ONGC INTRANET ETC.) This will convert IETE into a virtual Institute of learning spreading knowledge and education, conducting virtual classrooms sessions and virtual examination system integrated with Internet. Since INTRANET use the same protocols etc. of INTRANET, use of appropriate firewalls can enable IETE to work in collaboration with other renowned Universities etc. through INTRANET.
