INFORMATION ABOUT INSTITUTION OF
LATE PROF. K. K. NAIR MEMORIAL LECTURE

The “Prof. K.K. Nair Memorial Lecture” is the eighth of its series of such lectures instituted in the IETE Centre at Hyderabad.  Prof. K.K. Nair was not only a dedicated teacher but a friend and guide to every one of his students.  He was first Head of the Department and established and developed telecommunication engineering in College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad.  Prof. K.K. Nair established Osmania University Computer Centre in 1973 to assist teaching faculty, research scholars and administration.  In the same year he conceived the idea of an IETE Centre at Hyderabad.  He was founder member of this Centre.  A lecture is conducted in the name of Prof. K.K. Nair every year by eminent personalities in the memory of the services rendered by him to IETE.

BIO-DATA OF Late PROF. K. K. Nair
Professor K Krishnan Nair born in 1923 in Kerala and had his early education in Tiruvananthapuram. He was a student of the renowned Maharaja’s College where he obtained his B.Sc. degree in 1945 and M.Sc. degree in 1947. He was awarded DIISC by the highly respected Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1950. He joined the faculty thereafter. He visited University of Wisconsin and Brooklyn Polytechnic in 1956.
In 1959 Professor Nair was invited to establish teaching department in Telecommunication Engineering at Osmania University. In 1960 he became the first head of the Dept. of Telecommunication Engg., renamed as Dept. of Electronics and Comm. Engg. in 1966. The Post Graduate program was started in 1963 and Doctoral program in 1972 and the first International Seminar on circuit theory and system was organized in the same year. In 1973, he established University Computer Centre to assist teaching, research and administration. In 1975, he was requested to be Dean, Faculty of Engg. and Principal, University College of Engg., and little later Registrar, Osmania University. In 1977, he relinquished these offices.
Professor KK Nair was on several Committees of the Institutions, Industry and Government at the State and National Level in the field of Electronics and Communication Engg. He was a Member of Board of Governors, Regional Engg. College, Warangal. He was an active member of Institute of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (IETE).
He has over 30 papers in journals of repute, participated and organized several conferences and guided students for Ph.D. His interests were in communication systems, solid state devices and circuit theory.
Prof. Nair succumbed to cardiac arrest on 9th February 1978.
